Our team has been working harder than ever to launch our new Savas Labs website by the end of the year. However, we would like to recognize our new Product Designer, Jayson, who only recently joined the redesign project team but is already making a big impact. Immediately, he jumped right in and developed an icon set illustrating our services. Here’s what he had to say about it!
What was your favorite part about designing the iconography for the new website?
“My favorite part is finding those little aha moments that click. When something you didn’t intend happens and sets you on a new path. The Savas shapes are a great example. I threw it in as a cute nod, but when it resonated with the team, I realized we were on to something.
When you create forms that intend to convey meaning, and then that meaning is properly communicated, it’s a rewarding feeling. It’s like solving a puzzle.”
What Inspires Your Iconography?
“I often think back to one of my earliest Graphic Design classes. We were given an emotion (Happiness, Anger, Confidence, Confusion, etc.) and were asked to convey it using the basic elements and principles of design and draw each within a 1-inch square.
I think of this quite often, it’s such a simple exercise, but it forces you to compose efficiently. If you can’t make these shapes convey certain emotions at such a small scale, you’ll never be able to do so with more complex elements at a much larger scale.”
