We’re a quarter of the way through the year, and things are ramping up over here at Savas Labs! Projects are in full swing, new team members are hitting their strides, and the Spring air is bringing everyone back out into the world to enjoy nature and brighten up our days.
We hope that you’re also feeling the positive effects of ramped-up efforts within your organization. We figured that we would share some inspiration with you this month to support continued growth efforts in whatever it is you may be tackling. Keep it up, we see you and you’re doing great!
💪 Featured work — University of North Carolina School of Government’s Document Importer
UNC’s School of Government had a vision for bringing its faculty's print publications into the digital space. Savas partnered with them to bring this vision to life by building a tool to convert static Word documents' content & styles into HTML & CSS. Not only would this allow them to digitize an extensive library of textbooks, but it would also set them up for future use of those items within the school.
We had an amazing time working alongside the UNC team to architect the importer to align with their workflow and leverage Mammoth.js to generate semantic HTML outputs with custom CSS.

📣 Client shoutout — No Kid Hungry
Shout out to one of our newer clients this year - Share Our Strength and their No Kid Hungry campaign. Share Our Strength's mission is to end hunger and poverty in the U.S. and abroad through campaigns like No Kid Hungry, which will end childhood hunger in the United States. It’s a big job, but they’ve achieved some big results so far with over 1 billion meals provided to kids since No Kid Hungry’s inception! With such a noble mission and lofty goals, it was time for a refreshed look online and that’s how we were introduced!
Be on the lookout for exciting updates regarding their digital presence soon!
Over the last few months we've added a number of incredibly talented members to our team. This month, we wanted to highlight a group of new Front-End Developers - Angelika Yoder, Darrin "Lemon" Mack, Hong Tran, and Niharika Alam.
"Being a teacher turned out to be a lot of work for little pay. Having always been technically-inclined, I determined that learning to code was a great way to utilize my strengths and embark on a new career path. A local tech meetup started me on my journey which eventually led to my enrollment in an immersive coding bootcamp."
"I think The Internet is really one of humankind’s most wondrous inventions. The democratization of a platform which allows any person to publish any content to a global audience is as exciting as it is fraught with danger."
"After graduate school, I saw a Summer Hack Program on Twitter for 40 women to learn to code so I applied for it. The program was only three months but I really enjoyed it and realized that I wanted to pursue the track more. I turned down other job offers to participate in a Fullstack Development Program."
"The most exciting part is how software development is constantly evolving so there are always opportunities to learn new frameworks, new tools, and new languages."
